Your whole family is going to fall in love with these pulled pork sandwiches. The pork gets a homemade spice rub then is cooked in an electric pressure cooker until it is super tender.

Last spring, MaryJo and I attended the Everything Food Conference in Layton, Utah. It was there we were able to meet with representatives of many food products and food preparation appliance manufacturers. We spent a good amount of time with the reps from Bosch looking at their mixers and grain mills. Well, lo and behold, I got an email from them last month….they wondered if I’d like to try their NutriMill Artiste™ mixer. (Affiliate link…scroll down for Christmas specials).
Well heck ya…remembering the unusual motor on the bottom design of the machine. I wondered if it was sturdy enough and powerful enough to replace my KitchenAid stand mixer.
I made the white bread recipe and the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe supplied with the NutriMill mixer and they turned out fabulous. I substituted raisins for the chocolate chips.
I made a lemon chiffon pie where egg whites were whipped to stiff peaks and heavy cream was whipped for a creamy topping. Both of these took about 1 minute with the NutriMill Artiste mixer. The machine is super efficient and easy to clean.
Making pulled pork sandwiches
So…pulled pork sandwiches. I whipped up a recipe of the white bread recipe from NutriMill, and the two loaf recipe makes 3 pounds of dough. I separated the dough and used half of it to make sesame sandwich buns, and with the other half I made a regular loaf of bread. Sweet.
The bone-in pork shoulder I used was 5 pounds, then I stripped off excess fat and cut it into 4 separate pieces.
I applied a dry rub to the pork and browned the meat with a little vegetable oil in the electric multi cooker on the saute setting of my 6 function Crock Pot brand electric pressure cooker. It makes the pork look scrumptious.
The liquid ingredients and the pork are placed in the pressure cooker (see the recipe) and set on high pressure for 90 minutes. In the meantime, I formed the buns, let them rise, then coated them with egg wash and sesame seeds, and baked them for 25 minutes. The loaf of bread baked at the same time…for ten more minutes. Male multitasking at its finest. 😉
Once the pork was cooked, I used the NutriMill with the wire whisk attachment to shred the pork and it only took a couple of pulses to perfectly shred the meat…so easy and without having to use forks to do the job. The pulse function is really cool, like a combination of a food processor and a mixer.
After I removed the meat from the pressure cooker and skimmed off the fat from the liquid left in the pot, I mixed all that juicy goodness back into the shredded pork which soaked it all up.
The pulled pork sandwiches were perfect served with sliced onion and dill pickle slices. You can add extra store bought bbq sauce if you’d like…but by itself, it’s delicious.
Electric Pressure Cooker Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Delicious pork shoulder, rubbed with a spicy dry rub, and pressure cooked until it is fall apart tender. Served with delicious au jus.
- 1 tablespoon granulated garlic
- 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 5 lbs bone-in pork shoulder
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 12 cup water
- 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
Remove excess fat from the meat and cut it into 4 pieces.
Mix the dry rub ingredients together and thoroughly coat all sides of the pork pieces.
Set electric pressure cooker to the Saute function and add the canola oil.
Brown half the meat for 3 or 4 minutes on each side. Remove the browned meat and set aside while you repeat with the remaining pieces. Remove meat and set aside.
Mix the liquid ingredients in a small bowl and add to the pressure cooker.
Place the wire rack in the bottom of the container and add the meat. Follow the instructions for your device for pressure cooking meat and set on high pressure for 90 minutes.
When the time is up, do a quick release of pressure and remove the meat. Use two forks to shred the meat or use a NutriMill Artiste mixer with the wire whisk attachment and pulse to shred.
Pour the liquid from the cooker into a grease separator, if you have one, or a tall container and let the fat separate and come to the top so you can remove it with a spoon.
Place the meat into a bowl and add the liquid, then stir to combine.
Serve hot on buns with thinly sliced onion and dill pickle chips. Cole slaw may also be added, as well as barbecue sauce, if desired.
